Andragogy and Pedagogy theories

Immigrant agency training will use the element of motivation, engagement and relativity to enable the immigrants to relate to the lessons they are taught. Pedagogy theory will make the trainer to be in charge and give directions, while Andragogy will make the learners own up and feel part of the lessons (Neary 2002).

Instructional setting

The most effective instructional setting for immigrant training will be an open, motivated and concession training setting where the learner is in control of the timing and schedule of lessons. This setting will make the learners to feel more motivated since they will gain knowledge at their own pace and their level of understanding.

Instructional activities

For this form of adult training, the trainer will need to employ the use of brainstorming sessions so that the learners can move from understanding the known to learning the unknown. Group sessions will make the learning process a time to share and empower each other, making it more accepted.

Technology

While using andragogy, the trainer may employ the use of technology to enhance the learning experience. The use of PowerPoint presentations will enable the learners to have a glance at what they are discussing and reduce the need to take notes instead of learning. Internet may also be suggested for trainees so that they can access more information online and at their own time (Wang 2010).

Timeline

The learners will be engaged in developing of the timeline of the training. This is because the learners are mostly adults, and their consent is needed so that they can participate in learning. Coming up with fixed schedule will put pressure on the learners hence increase the dropout rate, unlike when they are involved.

Evaluating effectiveness

To evaluate effectiveness, the learner will observe and note the behavior change of the learners, track the changes in perceptions and observe the content of the learners’ discussions in and out of class. It is expected that after the learners have gained more knowledge, they will change their behavior subject to understanding of effects of damaging behaviors, they will change perceptions because they have facts, and their discussions will be more informed.
